“The most meaningful lunch you’ll have with strangers all month.”
— September '26 Purpose Forum attendee

Hello Netweaver,

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how often goodness moves quietly.

It looks like someone making an introduction that changes what happens next.

A business saying yes when a community need appears.

A neighbor noticing someone new and inviting them in.

A leader choosing generosity, even when no one is watching.

These moments rarely make headlines. But they shape the texture of a community.

They remind us that generosity is not only about money. It can be attention. Encouragement. Access. An idea freely shared. A door opened. A willingness to say, I know someone you should meet.

And when those small acts begin to connect, something bigger happens.

People feel seen.

Possibilities widen.

Good ideas find one another.

A community becomes a little more generous, a little more connected, and a little more alive.

That is the kind of goodness GoodnessCO exists to cultivate and circulate.

Beyond bringing people together, we help people discover what’s possible together.

This month, you’ll find stories, people, and opportunities that remind us there are many beautiful ways to matter, and many ways to put generosity into motion.

I hope something here sparks an idea, introduces you to someone new, or inspires your own next small act of goodness.

The flowers that kept multiplying

At UMass Memorial Medical Center, nurse practitioner Sarah Skinner started growing dahlias during the pandemic as a way to cope with the stress and grief of critical-care work. That private refuge eventually became Dahlia Day.

This month, nearly 50 volunteers helped deliver 850 homegrown dahlias to hospital patients. What began as one person tending flowers became a whole community finding a way to say: you are cared for. People.com

A beautiful reminder that goodness can grow exactly like a garden does: one small act, tended over time, multiplying far beyond where it began.

Local Act of Goodness

Each month, we’ll highlight simple yet powerful acts of generosity happening across the Grand Valley—because community health grows through everyday contributions.

When pumpkins become possibilities 🎃

Sometimes generosity looks like a pumpkin.

This fall, Bernal Farms donated pumpkins to Fruita Monument High School’s softball and wrestling teams to turn into a community fundraiser. The money helps cover equipment, uniforms, travel, and something especially meaningful: giving more student-athletes the opportunity to travel and compete with their teams. https://www.kkco11news.com

A beautiful reminder that generosity doesn’t always begin with a check. Sometimes it begins with asking, “What do we have that could help?”

What Happens at a Public Hearing?

Every Tuesday morning, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners holds a public hearing. It is where many county decisions are discussed and made in public.

But what actually happens at a hearing?

Before the meeting, an agenda is posted online with the items commissioners will consider. Supporting documents are also available for many items, giving residents an opportunity to learn more before the meeting begins.

During the hearing, some routine items may be considered together on the consent agenda. Other items are discussed individually. County staff may present information, commissioners ask questions and residents may have an opportunity to provide public comment.

When commissioners are ready to make a decision, one commissioner makes a motion, another seconds it and the board votes in public.

Some decisions are straightforward. Others follow months or even years of planning, technical work and community input before reaching the board.

Residents can attend public hearings in person, watch online or review agendas and meeting materials ahead of time.

Understanding the process makes it easier to follow decisions that affect our community and know when there is an opportunity to participate.
